uLawPractice is a cloud-based practice management and legal accounting software provider based in Ottawa, Ontario. uLawPractice automates contact management, compliance, payment automation, calendaring, court form automation, billing and trust & general accounting.

History

Founded in 2011 in Kanata, Ontario, uLawPractice was first established by Terry Curtis of SuperfluidSoftware Inc., who is the former vice-president of Nortel Networks Corporation. Curtis felt that the Canadian legal market was under-served with software that was tailored specifically to the needs of Canadian legal practitioners, especially when it came to compliance with tax and accounting regulators; the Canada Revenue Agency and respective Law Societies such as then Law Society of Upper Canada.

In 2012 Curtis launched a Compliance Coding Team (CCT) and his chief software engineers used Law Society bookkeeping and financial management guidelines as a blueprint to architect the software so all users would be in compliance with regulators exclusively in Canadian jurisdictions.

In 2019 uLawPractice won 5 different Reader's Choice Awards issued by Canadian Lawyer Magazine.[1]

In October 2020, partly due to the increased digitization of the Canadian legal industry during the COVID-19 pandemic, uLawPractice's EDU system was adopted by more than 7 Ontario paralegal colleges[2], including Algonquin College in Ottawa, Ontario.[3]

In 2021 uLawPractice expanded its API support for digital payments so users can get paid by clients using payment providers such as Nuvei and LawPay/Affinipay.[4]
