Axcient, Inc is a Mountain View, California company which provides Recovery-as-a-Service (RaaS) for businesses to protect their data and applications. Axcient's platform manages data backup, data recovery, disaster recovery, regulatory compliance, cloud storage, online backup and granular data recovery from a single web based service to eliminate data loss for small to large businesses.[1]

History

Axcient was founded in 2006 and is headquartered in Mountain View, California. It is privately held and has the backing of investors including Allegis Capital, Peninsula Ventures, Thomvest, and Scale Venture Partners.[2] The company name comes from combining the words intelligent and access placed in a random word generator which exchanged the word intelligent for a synonym, sapient, and then flipped around access (Ax)-sapient (cient).[3]

On September 16, 2014 Axcient acquired DirectRestore, a Dover, Delaware-based granular recovery technology solutions[buzzword] provider.[4] DirectRestore's product portfolio enables the restoration of mainstream applications such as SQL Server and Microsoft Exchange database backups and replications which Axcient will integrate into their single solution[buzzword] and OEM the software. In July 2017, eFolder merged with Axcient.[5]

Services

Gartner rated Axcient as "Excellent" in its Critical Capabilities for Recovery as a Service[6] report and a “Visionary” in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for DRaaS.[7] Axcient was also ranked as a “Leader” by Forrester in the Disaster Recovery as a Service Provider Forrester Wave[8] and a “Leader” in the IDC MarketScape DRaaS vendor assessment.[9] Their service does not require any software to be installed on customers' hardware.[10] Axcient has one product, a web-based cloud solution[buzzword] that includes data backup, data recovery, disaster recovery, regulatory compliance, cloud storage, online backup and granular data and application restore.[11]
