Snow (stylized as SNOW) is an image messaging and multimedia mobile application created by Camp Mobile, a subsidiary of South Korea n internet search giant Naver Corporation.[1] It features virtual stickers using augmented reality and photographic filters. SNOW is often compared with Snapchat, as pictures and messages sent are only available for a short time in both platforms.[2]

Background

In September 2015, SNOW was launched as a guerilla project by Camp Mobile. The app gained attention by their huge amount of filters, stickers, as well as their beauty effects inside. The app also collaborated with different Korean artists such as BTS and Twice to launch selfies stickers.[3][4]

In 2016, the app has spun off into its own company, named as SNOW Corp.[5][6]

In 2018, SNOW raised $50M from SoftBank and Sequoia China. It is reported that it plans to use the investment to develop its augmented reality and facial recognition technologies.[7]

Features

SNOW allows users to take pictures or videos (of a maximum duration of 10 seconds) and choose from 1,300 stickers and 50 filters. They can also send them as messages that destroy themselves in 48 hours. Videos could also be saved as GIF files.[8]
