ABCDE (A Better CD Encoder) is a CD ripper for Linux and UNIX-like operating systems, operated entirely from the command line. The program can be run 'as is' or can run with command line switches or from a config file. It will query either FreeDB or MusicBrainz for the CD currently in the drive, display a list of possible matches to choose from, then optionally rip, encode, tag the files. The program can also optionally normalize, add replaygain information and create a playlist. As of version 2.6, ABCDE can rip to Vorbis, FLAC, MP3, Wav, and others.
Features
- Do a CDDB or Musicbrainz query over the Internet to look up your CD or use a locally stored CDDB entry, or read CD-TEXT from your CD as a fallback for track information
- Grab an audio track (or all the audio CD tracks) from your CD
- Normalize the volume of the individual file (or the album as a single unit)
- Compress to Ogg/Vorbis, MP3, FLAC, Ogg/Speex, MPP/MP+(Musepack), M4A and/or Opus format(s), all in one CD read
- Comment or ID3/ID3v2 tag
- Give an intelligible filename
- Replaygain - Calculates values for the individual file (or the album as a single unit)
- Delete the intermediate WAV file (or save it for later use)
- Repeat until finished
ABCDE version 2.9.3 is the most recent download and was released on February 5, 2019. with an extensive list of changes [2] including automated and semi-automated album art downloading.
