Founded in 2008, LabRoots is a leading social networking service, centered around all things scientific, medical and academic.[2][3] The company is based in Yorba Linda, California and caters to more than 2.2 million tech innovators, engineers, and scientists from around the world. LabRoots connects the scientific world, leveraging an online features and tools to develop meaningful collaborations across geographic boundaries and fields of expertise.[4]

The open platform requires registration with email and some personal information such as home address, telehone number and others; but those wishing to join the site may do so without paying. Users may then follow the activities of other users, companies, or institutions and engage in discussions with them. But further view on seminars, both live and on demand, requires further information.

History

LabRoots was founded in 2008 by Greg[5] and Don Cruikshank, who have more than 60 years of combined experience in marketing biotechnology. Often considered “LinkedIn for scientists,”[6][7] the free-to-join platform allows scientists, researchers and medical experts from around the world to build relationships with other new-found peers, increase their influence within the scientific community, share their expertise and learn from one another.[8]

LabRoots acquired BioConference Live in 2009, adding features to the platform that enable members to collaborate, share and engage with each other through cost-effective live video webcasts and real-time networking.[9][10] The open platform allows anyone in the tech, medical, engineering, or similar fields, to participate in online, virtual event, giving access to a worldwide audience of more than 21,000 per event on average.

LabRoots has seen steady growth since its inception, especially in recent years - doubling the number of employees in 2013, then again in 2016. With that personnel growth, the site and platform have both evolved to incorporate new services and features each year.[11]
