DateBid is a social gaming and online dating application hosted on Facebook where participants bid for dates with other participants using "DateBid Fun Dollars." As other participants see bids posted they can post a challenging bid. Whoever bids the most wins a five-minute date set up via webcam, but the object is to see who can win the most dates and accumulate the most dollars.[1]

According to AppData.com DateBid currently averages 24,000 active users a month.[2]

History

DateBid was launched April 22, 2010 on Facebook and is owned and operated by DateBid Limited, a privately held company based in the U.K. that develops social networking applications for online platforms and mobile devices.[3] DateBid Limited was founded in 2009.[4]

Philanthropy

DateBid’s platform has been used to raise money for charities.[5] In October 2010, Actress Betsy Russell participated in a date auction that raised $1,900[6] for Getting Out By Going In (GOGI), a non-profit organization that provides educational materials to incarcerated men, women and children.[7]
