Faisal Farooqui is an Indian activist, writer and entrepreneur.[1][2] He is an advocate of net neutrality and time zone reforms in India.[3][4] He is the founder & CEO of MouthShut.com[5] and a founding-member of startup angel investment network, Lead Angels.[6]

Farooqui petitioned for freedom of expression on the Internet- he challenged India's IT Rules in the Supreme Court of India which resulted in the Honorable Supreme Court striking down the IT Act's Sec. 66A and reading down of many other sections in a lawsuit known as Shreya Singhal v. Union of India and (MouthShut.com & Faisal Farooqui v/s Union of India) [7] [8][9]

India's national news channel Doordarshan named Farooqui as a youth icon. He received the Manthan Award for Best Youth website in 2006 from IT Minister Sachin Pilot[10]

Early life and education

Farooqui was born in Mumbai , India. He attended St. Stanislaus High School in Bandra, Mumbai.[11] For higher studies, he moved to the United States where he received a Bachelor's of Science degree in Information Systems and Finance from the Binghamton University.[12]

Career

After graduation, he started working at American Management Systems as a telecommunication consultant.[11]

In 2000, he left the United States and moved to India to establish MouthShut.com.[11][13] He is known for introducing web 2.0 in India.[14]

He is also known for popularizing the concept of advertising on rickshaws for marketing purposes.[15][16]

Recently, he became spokesperson for Indian actor, Dilip Kumar, because of their long-standing family relationship.[17][18]

Net Neutrality

Faisal Farooqui is an advocate of an unrestricted neutral internet.[19][20]
