Microstrip Detector

A detector made of a large number of identical detector structures usually in a plane (a fragmented metal electrode on a common support, an insulator, or a semiconductor), in order to obtain a device with high resolution in one dimension, in that plane. Two main types of microstrip detectors are common: silicon microstrip detectors [[[node206.html#peis92|Peisert92]]] and microstrip gas chambers.

The main geometrical parameter of a microstrip structure is the pitch; typical pitch values for silicon microstrip detectors are in the range of ten to one hundred micrometres.

Microstrip detectors can be built as single- or double-sided devices. The readout is normally done in channels connecting several strips.
